THE TEXT
❶ Chapman Shum, 13, has made remarkable progress in music. Despite having a rare disease that caused his blindness from birth as well as speech and learning difficulties, Chapman has found success with music. His love for music began at the age of five when he taught himself to play the piano. By the age of eleven, Chapman turned what seemed impossible into reality. He passed the grade 8 piano exam with flying colors. Over the past two years, he has gone on to showcase his talent all over Britain.
❷ For Chapman, music is a source of motivation and self-confidence. In addition to building his personal growth, he actively contributes his musical talent to charitable performances to inspire others. He hopes his journey will show the incredible benefits of music and how it can offer a unique opportunity for communication and self-expression, particularly for children with special needs and who may fail to do well at school.
❸ Chapman's story demonstrates the transformative effects of music on individuals with handicaps. His journey is an inspiring one. His goal is not only to attract the audience to his music but also to set an example to other children who have learning difficulties. Thanks to his musical talent, Chapman was nominated Young Person of the Year in 2023. It was a valuable award for his successful performances.
