THE TEXT
① Last week, I dropped my mobile phone face-down on the floor and the screen broke into pieces. I picked it up crying and all in tears. This meant I would have to replace the screen and be without my dear cell phone for a moment. I didn't have anybody's phone numbers memorized. Besides, without my iPhone, how would I know I got an e-mail or a notification on Facebook?
② As the day went on, I started to enjoy my mobile-free experience. I took the time to enjoy watching my boys play. Together, we blew bubbles and played games without being stopped by incoming calls and text messages. I also enjoyed the sweet chirp of the birds and the pleasant smell of our neighbour's freshly baked cake. I did all the house chores in record time, because I wasn't stopping to check my phone every time I heard a beep.
③ The morning I gave up my mobile, I was anxious. But once my husband brought it home, my feelings were mixed. I was excited to have it back and felt no need to use it again. I asked my boys, "Who wants to take a bike ride?" They both jumped up yelling, "I do! I do!" This sounded more inviting than a strong Wi-Fi signal. Off we went to explore the beautiful world, a world that is worth connecting to daily.
